Black Stars players face anxious three-week Cup of Nations wait

Black Stars players are facing three weeks of sleepless nights to know if they have been selected in Ghana’s squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic will release his full and final squad for January's tournament on 15 December in Accra.

The Serbian manager will announce his full squad at a press conference.

Players are desperate to be part of the squad as Ghana aims to annex its fifth Africa Cup of Nations title.

About 40 players have been given the opportunity to impress under the Serbian coach, they are all hoping to be part of the squad for the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Some players like goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey, John Mensah, Isaac Vorsah, John Pantsil, Samuel Inkoom, Daniel Opare, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Mohammed Abu, Derek Boateng, Anthony Annan, Andre Ayew, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan and Prince Tagoe are most likely to make the cut.

The injury status of players like Jonathan Mensah is likely to cause some uncertainty but if he is fit, the talented centre-back will make the final squad for the tournament.

Players like Masahudu Alhassan, Dominic Adiyiah, Qunicy Owusu Abeyie, Jeff Schlupp, Charles Takyi, Derek Asamoah, Richard Kingson, Matthew Amoah, Yussif Chibsah will all be sitting on razor's edge to find out if they have been chosen.

African Champions League final goal-scorer Harrison Afful is keen on playing in the tournament following his heroics.

In-form winger Ishmael Yartey will be praying that his form in the Swiss top-flight might lead to his selection while Norway based midfielder King Osei Gyan who has been in outstanding form in Norway will be pushing for a place.

Fit-again Manchester City left-back Nuhu Mohammed, who is on loan at Stromgodset, is hoping his performances in the Norwegian league over the past few months will lead to a call-up to solve the Black Stars left-back problems.

Home-based goalkeeper Ernest Sowah Daniel Agyei and Sammy Adjei will be praying that Kingson's exile from the team will continue for them to have a chance of making the squad.

Other players plying their trade in the local league like top scorer Emmanuel Baffour of New Edubiase, defender Rashid Sumaila, Berekum Chelsea duo of Emmanuel Clottey and Abdul Basit as well as Kotoko players Ahmed Toure and Nathaniel Asamoah, and Hearts duo of Uriah Asante and Mahatma Otoo will all be eyeing places in the team.
