Ghana midfielder Michael Essien will be making his 200th domestic appearance for Chelsea in the Capital One game against Arsenal.

The 30-year-old is being handed just his second start of the season under manager Jose Mourinho in an expected explosive clash against the Premier League leaders on Tuesday night.

The Ghanaian midfield powerhouse will be operating as one of a two-man holding midfield of the Blues alongside Nigerian Mikel Obi.

This tactic is believed to be a strategy of Chelsea’s Portuguese manager to rough up the free-flowing style of Arsenal.

It is however very refreshing to see the former Olympique Lyon man back in the starting line up of the Blues.

Many believe he is being treated unfairly by his ‘daddy’ Mourinho for being relegated to the Chelsea bench especially after churning out sterling performances for Ghana in crucial games.

The Ghana international arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2005 for a reported African record in excess of £24.4m.

His fine career at Chelsea has been hampered in recent times due to successive injuries haven thrilled the Blues fans with very memorable displays.

He is now set to make his 200th domestic bow for Chelsea in Tuesday’s Capital One game against the flying Arsenal side.
