US Sassuolo forward Kevin-Prince Boateng could become the new No 9 for Barcelona following reports that he is on the verge of signing for the Catalan club.

Reports went widespread on Monday morning that the Blaugrana have identified Boateng as the right man to strengthen their forward line this month.

The 31-year-old joined the Neroverdi in the summer from Eintracht Frankfurt and quickly established himself a vital cog of Roberto De Zerbi's side, netting 4 goals in 13 games.

The Ghanaian experience in Spanish football makes him a clear favourite to replace Munir El Haddadi, who moved to Sevilla, as Luis Suarez's back up in the No 9 role.

With Ousmane Dembele out for two to three weeks, Boateng’s signing has been expedited.

Barca directors and coach Ernesto Valverde met on Monday morning to take a definitive decision over Dembele. The green light has been given.

Adapting to the La Liga will not be a problem for the former AC Milan star after his scintillating one-season performance for Las Palmas during the 2016/17 campaign.

He bagged 10 goals and 5 assists in 28 league games for the Canaries.

He arrives on loan for 2 million euros with an 8m option to buy.

In the current campaign he has 15 games with Sassuolo, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
