Ghana striker Majeed Waris scored his first goal for Strasbourg to steer the side to an away victory on Wednesday, just one week after joining the top-flight club.

The talented attacker came off the bench to break the deadlock in the 1-0 win in Toulouse in the French Ligue 1 to demonstrate his worth for the visiting side.

Waris joined Strasbourg on a six-month loan deal from Portuguese giants FC Porto in the just ended winter transfer window.

The Ghana international was handed his debut against Monaco two days after signing before enjoying 30 minutes of action against Marseille over the weekend.

Waris was brought on in the 74th minute in their midweek encounter against Toulouse on matchday 23 of the French top-flight league.

The striker repaid the faith shown in him by coach Thierry Laurey as he smashed home the winner two minutes later.

Waris struck the ball from close range after he was laid on the ball by Adrien Thomasson but his celebration was truncated as the referee signaled to check the legality of the goal before consulting the the Video Assistance Review (VAR).

Referee Karim Abed signaled that the goal stands after the VAR review.

The win sent Strasbourg to 9th on the table with 33 points in 23 matches.
