Ghana U23 defender Gideon Mensah eyes Gabon scalp in 2020 summer Olympics qualifier

Ghana Under-23 defender Gideon Mensah is eyeing a positive result against Gabon in the first leg tie of the 2020 Olympic Games qualifier against Gabon on Saturday.

The 20-year-old is expected to be key for the side ahead of the must-win game at the Accra Sports stadium.

Mensah, who is on loan SK Sturm Graz from Red Bull Salzburg, has been training with the Black Meteors in the Ghanaian capital.

And he is poised for the clash against Gabon in Accra.

"It's an important match for us and we have to get it right on Saturday," he told GHANAsoccernet.com

"Training has been great. The intensity has been amazing and we hope to make our  people happy.

"It's not going to be a walk in the park. We have to work hard and ensure we get a good result from this leg.

"On a personal level, its been great for me. I was out a bit due to injury but I'm fully fit and raring to go for both club and country.

"We expects a full-house at the Accra sports stadium on Saturday. We hope to make it count."

The left-back has been one of the exciting young African talent in Europe, having won the UEFA Youth League with Red Bull Salzurg.

A groin injury will keep him out of action for several months but has hit the ground running since he made a full recovery.

The hugely talented defender is fast becoming a fans' favourite after being voted MVP in Sturm Graz's 1-0 win over Austria Wien in the Austrian Bundesliga over the weekend.
