Ghana’s Vice President John Mahama has urged the immediate submission of a detailed report on the Black Stars’ disappointing campaign at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana’s hopes of ending a 30-year wait for an African title in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea was brought to an abrupt end after suffering a shocking 1-0 defeat at the hands of eventual winners Zambia in the semi finals.
The Black Stars team failed to rally itself enough and suffered a second successive defeat to Mali to place fourth at the finals.
Ghana’s failed campaign at the CAN has sparked a wave of criticisms, perceptions and accusations and the Vice President wants an immediate end to this with a detailed report on what went wrong and ways to improve.
“The purpose of this meeting to discuss the few of the challenges faced at the Nations Cup and see how we can expedite work on finalizing a report on what happened,†Mahama said during a meeting with Ghana FA officials on Tuesday.
“So that together with you, government can assist you to work and put the team in the kind condition of mind that will make them continue to make us proud.
“We shouldn’t just sit and lament about what happened and let’s look at what the challenges were and see how we can quickly prepare and put them in the kind of shape that they would go and be able to represent the country properly.â€
Ghana’s coach Goran Stevanovic has been fingered by many as the major reason for the Black Stars demise and that he should be immediately fired.
The decision on the future of the coach will be made and other related information will be made known at a press conference following crunch a meeting between the Serbian trainer and the powerful 22-mdmber Executive Committee on Wednesday.
