Ghanaian quartet of Jonathan Mensah, Lalas Abubakar, Harrison Aful and young winger Edward Opoku suffered a heavy defeat with Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer on Sunday evening.
Columbus Crew were beaten 3-1 by Atlanta United on the road but still maintain their position in fourth in the Eastern conference.
A goal in the 50th minute from Columbus Crew SC's Ghanaian-American forward Gyasi Zardes found the scoreline even at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but two late tallies from Atlanta United put the home side on top 3-1 at the final whistle on Sunday.
Atlanta’s Josef Martinez opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Hector Villalba gave Atlanta the go-ahead goal while Miguel Almiron scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute.
Defenders Jonathan Mensah, Lalas Abubakar and Harrison Afful lasted the entire duration.
However, winger Edward Opoku was replaced in the 70th minute by Justin Meram.
