Government has approved a budget of just over $5m for Ghana’s campaign at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The amount covers the entire expenditure of the team which includes camping costs, accommodation, feeding, per diems, winning bonuses, transport, security and other logistical services.

A combined team from the Ghana FA and the Sports Ministry were made to defend the budget before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports which they did with aplomb.

The funds have subsequently been released to the Sports Ministry where a spending officer will be designated as an attaché to the Black Stars to do all disbursements.

“Government as of yesterday have released all funds for the Nations Cup to the Sports Ministry,” Vice President of the Ghana FA Jordan Anagbla confirmed to GHANAsoccernet.com.

“All is therefore set for the team as they travel to South Africa on Friday to commence camping ahead of the tournament.”

Ghana pitches camp on January 7 in South Africa ahead of the start of the tournament being jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea on January 21.
