The affable minister revealed that his ministry have a close working relationship with the Ghana Football Association insisting that they have no interest in interfering in the administration of the game in the country.

Hon. Afriyie-Ankrah added that government will also develop the other sports disciplines to create the avenue for the youth in Ghana to reach their full potential while providing health benefits for the country.

He told the 2013 Soccerex Africa Forum in South Africa on Wednesday that the development of sports infrastructure and stadia in Ghana in future will be tailored towards the needs of a particular region.

Hon. Afriyie-Ankrah, who was invited as one of the main speakers for the 2013 Soccerex Africa Forum, made these observations during a roundtable discussion the important relationship between government and sport at the conference that took place at the stunning Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.

He joined a selection of sports ministers from across the continent including Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi of Nigeria and Chishimba Kambwili of Zambia to discuss the important relationship between government and sport, and how the two are closely interlinked.

The Forum brought together some of the leading decision makers in African football together with businesses from across the continent and the world for two days of unrivaled learning, networking and business opportunities with the aim of uniting the business of football in Africa.

This year’s Forum is featuring no less than 8 national sports ministers including Ghana's Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, multiple FA presidents including Ghana's Kwesi Nyantakyi, senior club and league representatives and all supported by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
