Guardiola calls for major effort

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola believes everyone connected to the club have to push in the same direction if they are to win the Champions League.

The Citizens are in their eighth successive season in Europe's premier club competition, with their best showing a semi-final spot in the 2015/16 campaign.

We are a good team, you can't deny that, but you need something special (that) we don't have.

And Guardiola believes that there is still a missing ingredient which would help his side go all the way and be crowned kings of Europe, a thought he fleshed out ahead of a clash with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine on Tuesday evening.

He told his pre-match press briefing: "I was born in Barcelona and grew up there. When I started the only way to survive is to win, but I also learned when you don't win life goes on and you have another chance.

"What I saw in my team last season, honestly I think we are not ready, that's what I feel. That doesn't mean we won't try, but to win the competition it's not enough to want to win it. You have to have the experience and every game we will learn.

"To win this kind of title you have to be pushed from everybody surrounding Man City and still we don't have that feeling. The fans push you to win the Champions League.

"We are a good team, you can't deny that, but you need something special (that) we don't have. Maybe in the future - we will be closer every year."

City have won one and lost one in Group F so far this season and are 4/11 to claim a much-needed victory on Tuesday evening.

Guardiola's side are 9/1 to secure a 1-0 victory, with Sergio Aguero 8/15 to score at any time in the game.
