Guinea coach set sights on Group D qualification

Guinea coach Michel Dussuyer says his team's honeymoon period is over and must now get back to work as they open their Nations Cup campaign against Mali on Tuesday.

The Frenchman led Syli National through a very successful qualification series where they edged-out traditional giants; Nigeria to make the 2012 CAN in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

But Dussuyer has told his team that successful period is now over and must now completely focus on the task of qualifying from a tough Group D which has Ghana and Botswana as its other members.

"It was a great performance to finish ahead of Nigeria. Guineans were proud of the team, but all that is now in the past," he said.

"We therefore have to continue to work hard, give our 100 per cent always, because we are not in an easy group."

The ex Benin coach also conceded that Mali and Ghana look the more heavyweights in the group but will not underestimate the threat posed by debutants Botswana.

"Our first objective is to get past the first round. Ghana and Mali will be our major rivals, but we will also not take for granted Botswana, who were the surprise team in the qualifiers," he said.
