Higuain pushing for AC Milan exit as Chelsea close in

Published on: 09 January 2019

AC Milan could be in the mix for a new striker in January as reports suggest Gonzalo Higuain has asked to leave the club in order to join Chelsea.

The 31-year-old has struggled to assert himself at the San Siro so far this season, and it’s believed his relationship with director Leonardo has fallen apart after the Brazilian publicly called out his striker to step up his game.

As a result Sport Mediaset are reporting Higuain is keen to leave Milan this month, with Chelsea stepping up their efforts to land the striker.

The move would see Higuain reunite with coach Maurizio Sarri, as the two enjoyed a fruitful relationship while working at Napoli.

However, any deal would require several pieces to fall in place, as Milan originally signed the 31-year-old on loan from Juventus for â‚¬18m with the option to make it permanent for â‚¬36m.

The Rossoneri don’t want to pay that figure for just six months of Higuain’s services, so it’s believed they could ask Chelsea for a discount on the â‚¬35m option they have on Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Milan would also want Alvaro Morata on loan for 18 months for â‚¬5m, with an option to buy for â‚¬40m, though he has been linked with moves to Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

Another scenario would see the Rossoneri send Higuain back to Juventus, and then receive Moise Kean.

That would then free up the Bianconeri to sell the Argentine to Chelsea for â‚¬55m.
