Abubakar Yusif has rubbished reports he canvassed to have his name on the list of nominees for the 2010/2011 Premier League awards.

The PLB effected a change in the Coach of the Year category by replacing the ex assistant coach of Berekum Chelsea with his boss, Orlando Wellington.

This sparked a lot of controversy ahead of last Saturday's award ceremony with many largely crediting Yusif for Chelsea's league triumph since Wellington was away on national team duty.

"I will not hide the fact that I played 14 games and amassed 26 points, that I cannot change," the ex Hearts of Oak coach told Hot FM.

"I must however make it very clear that I did not lobby for the initial nomination.

"I learnt a lot from him (Wellington) and I am sure he also benefited from my services but while he was away, I also introduced by own programs and training methods."

His response is in sharp rebuttal of comments made by Orlando Wellington after taking delivery of his award.

"All those who are downplaying my contribution to Chelsea's league triumph might be acting out of jealousy," Wellington said.

"All the coaches were working under me, it was my program that they were following so even though I was away with the national team, it was my program that they were following.

"No one could have done something otherwise without my prior approval and even so this was an award for head coaches and nothing else."
