Icardi continues playing hardball over Inter future

A meeting has been scheduled between Inter and Mauro Icardi and his agent next week, although it appears that talks may not be as productive as first thought despite the club upping their offer to the player.

The Nerazzurri are keen to extend their captain’s contract from 2021 until 2023, giving him a healthy salary boost and removing the €110 million release clause which applies to foreign clubs.

Although it appeared this week that the club were unwilling to meet the player and his wife and representative Wanda Icardi’s €8m per season asking price, they were considering upping their offer from €6m to €7m.

However, in a latest twist from the Icardi camp, La Gazzetta dello Sport that they are now set to toy with Inter further by requesting an even higher €9m per campaign when the parties sit down to discuss the situation next week.

The summit had already been on the agenda but Giuseppe Marotta is anxious to resolve the situation and get a gauge on whether Wanda is in fact bluffing or is serious about the latest request.

Inter are reportedly steadfast in their refusal to up a contract offer for Icardi to €9m per campaign, with the current deal they are ready to put on the table being worth €7m.

As part of his current deal, Icardi makes €4.5m per season, although he is liable to earn a further €800,000 in bonuses.
