Italy fans call for inclusion of Roma striker in Euro squad

Surveyed Azzurri supporters have called for Roma captain Francesco Totti to be included in Antonio Conte’s plans for the upcoming European Championship in France.

Despite being heavily linked with a Stadio Olimpico departure this summer, the iconic forward has come off the bench in the Giallorossi’s last five Serie A matches to score four times and assist a further goal, turning each game in favour of his side.

The 39-year-old’s recent form now appears to have earned him his much-coveted extension at the Olimpico, as well as leading to fans clamouring for his inclusion in the Azzurri squad for the first time in a decade.

La Gazzetta dello Sport conducted a survey among readers with over 12,000 participants, which saw 75 percent of voters declaring they would like to see Totti handed a call-up for the summer’s tournament.

Totti’s goals to minutes ratio this season is nothing short of astonishing, as he has found the net, on average, every 14 minutes.

The 2006 final win over France represents the last time Totti appeared for his country, on which occasion he came off after an hour.
