Jesus looking for greater role

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus is hoping to make a much bigger impact with the Citizens this season, having helped Brazil to Copa America glory.

The 22-year-old made a mere eight Premier League starts last season, being used as a substitute on a further 21 occasions and scoring seven goals in the process.

I have got to be strong and work hard. If I get the chance, I won't let it go.

The South American added a further 14 goals in 18 appearances in the FA Cup, League Cup and the Champions League, before contributing three goals to the Brazil cause as they secured Copa America success on home soil.

Now, he would like to try and ease himself out of the Citizens shadow cast by Sergio Aguero, the club's all-time record goalscorer, and earn the favour of head coach Pep Guardiola.

The striker told ESPN Brasil: "I want to be involved and I want to help my team-mates, while respecting my manager. But of course I'm hoping to get (more) minutes.

"Last season I didn't play as much, but I expect and wish to play a little more - not to put pressure the boss, but on myself.

"Sometimes I don't play as much as I wanted because of me. I have got to be strong and work hard. If I get the chance, I won't let it go."

City completed the first-ever domestic treble last season, by retaining both the Premier League title and the League Cup, while also lifting the FA Cup.

This season the Citizens are 4/6 to win a third consecutive Premier League title, while they are available at 4/1 to triumph in the Champions League for the first time in their history.
