He's 37 years young and on Matchday 37 he delivered the goods to grab the headlines in the latest LaLiga Fantasy MARCA Best XI. Joaquin just keeps on giving as he added another feat to an already massively impressive career after claiming the Player of the Matchday honours courtesy of his dazzling display, which was capped off by a brace, in Real Betis's 2-1 win over SD Huesca.
But who earned their stripes and slots in alongside the veteran midfielder in this star-studded lineup? The latest round of fixtures served up what's perhaps the most varied starting XI in LaLiga Fantasy MARCA history in terms of team representation. Indeed, there are representatives from no fewer than 10 different sides, with Athletic Club the only team to supply two players.
On this occasion, the man to get the nod between the Best XI sticks is FC Barcelona's Jasper Cillessen, whose first league start of the campaign couldn't have gone much better as he kept a clean sheet and chalked up nine points against an attack-minded Getafe CF side in a 2-0 victory for the Catalan giants.
The side's three-man backline is led by Real Sociedad's Joseba Zaldua (12 points), who as well as getting his name on the scoresheet in the Basques' 3-1 success over Real Madrid also produced an impressive defensive display. Lining up alongside him are Ximo Navarro (10), who netted D.Alaves's only goal in their defeat to Valencia CF and 10-point Jose Luis Gaya, who was instrumental as Los Che staged a stirring comeback in the same game, claiming an assist whilst posing a constant threat with his marauding runs down the left flank.
The aforementioned Joaquin (16) was the main man in a midfield that struck a total of six goals in the latest round of games. Raul Garcia (13) was at the double in Athletic's 3-1 triumph over RC Celta, a match in which Iker Muniain also caught the eye with a 12-point showing. Juanpi (12) was also amongst the goals for Huesca, whilst Rayo Vallencano's Alvaro Medran (11) was on the mark against R. Valladolid CF.
Last but not least, the team's strike pairing is made up of Borja Iglesias (15) and Sergi Guardiola (11). RCD Espanyol's Galician hitman claimed both of his side's goals to bring his tally for the season to 17 as they ran out 2-0 winners at CD Leganes, whilst Guardiola's inspired performance and late strike at Vallecas helped R.Valladolid to secure LaLiga Santander survival.
