Jordan stay perfect, Palestine, UAE remain winless

Manama: Defending champions Jordan made it two wins from two, while Palestine and the United Arab Emirates cancelled each other out on Matchday Three of the WAFF Women's Championship in Bahrain on Friday.

JORDAN 3-1 LEBANON

Refreshed after a four-day break, Al Nashmiyat came flying out of the blocks and ultimately held on for a comfortable 3-1 win against steadily-improving Lebanon.

Fresh from her opening day brace against United Arab Emirates, Raya Hina gave the Jordanians the lead with a sweet half-volley in the eighth minute, and Anfal Al Sufy doubled the advantage when she poked home Shanaz Jebreen's cross just four minutes later.

Jebreen, a long-term standout in the West Asian game, then got in on the act herself, rounding the goalkeeper to give Lebanon a three-goal mountain to climb when she finished a sweeping 56th-minute counter-attack.

Hopes of a Lebanese comeback were sparked by Hanin Tamim's second goal of the tournament in the 58th minute, but that was where the scoring ended as Jordan joined Bahrain on six points from two matches.

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES 0-0 PALESTINE

Hopes of a turnaround in the respective fortunes of United Arab Emirates and Palestine were extinguished after the sides played out a scoreless draw in a bottom of the table clash.

Both sides came into the contest following defeats and, despite a competitive contest, a combination of poor finishing and sound goalkeeping from UAE's Noura Al Mazrooei and Palestine's Razan Al Qazqaha ensured the sides remained deadlocked and stuck at the bottom of the table.

While the 0-0 scoreline ensured both sides collected their first point of the competition, UAE - with one point from three matches - became the first side to be eliminated from the title race.
