Kingson, Paintsil eye Ghana captaincy role

Goalkeeper Richard Kingson or John Paintsil will captain Ghana when they clash with South Korea in a friendly in Seoul on Tuesday.

That is because substantive captain John Mensah has been ruled out of the game after suffering a knock during Friday’s clash against Congo.

His permanent assistant Michael Essien will also not be available for the game after being excused for the trip to the Asian country.

This means those next in line will be allowed to captain the team in Seoul.

Kingson captained the side in the absence of Mensah and Essien at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Paintsil is also seen as next in line to Kingson with Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan as future candidates to the post.

Legendary captain Stephen Appiah retired from international football after last year’s World Cup in South Africa.
