Konadu: Kotoko beatable but not without sweat

Published on: 05 March 2012

Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu insists his side is very much vulnerable to losses but his players’ tough mentality makes it almost impossible for it to happen.

The ex Ghana striker has defied all odds to keep his team on top of the Ghanaian topflight and are now hot favourites to win the title which has eluded them for the past four years.

With a healthy seven-point lead at the top of the Glo Premier League, very few will bet against the Porcupine Warriors emerging victorious at the end of the campaign especially with their new found toughness in getting points out of possible 'banana peel' games.

"Kotoko is not unbeatable. In fact any team on the surface of this earth is beatable," Konadu tells GHANAsoccernet.com.

"The thing is that it will be extremely difficult for any team to beat us with the kind of psychological make of our players.

"They (players) just don't give into defeat and therefore any team will not be able to achieve victory against us without sweat."

The confidence at Kotoko with respect to the league is a sharp contrast of what exist with their close contenders; Hearts of Oak and Berekum Chelsea.

Where as there is a lot of pressure on Hearts' coach Nebojsa Vucicevic to deliver following recent poor run of results, defending champions Chelsea have a bit of a distraction with their flourishing campaign in the Caf Champions League.

But Konadu was quick beat down any concern of his side crumbling under pressure in the event his close competitors start to get their acts together.

"I am fully concentrated on my team and have no interest in knowing what is going on with our rivals.

"If they keep winning and we do same, it means we will end up winning the title come the end of the season so we are fully focused on things we can control which is working on improving our team," he adds.

The 39-year-old will get an opportunity to make an even bigger statement with his team when Kotoko hosts his former club All Stars upon the league's resumption this weekend.

The result of this game being played at the Baba Yara Stadium will be very essential to Kotoko's league ambitions despite holding a seven-point lead with twelve games left to run.
