Kotoko crash Jets to go 15 clear

Asante Kotoko stretched their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table to 15 points after a 2-0 win over Mighty Jets at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

It was a firm and resounding display from Maxwell Konadu's side.

Midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei shot the Porcupine Warriors into the lead in the 37th minute before Gideon Baah sealed the win three minutes to full time.

What became outstanding was the emotion that was expressed after Baah who netted the second goal.

The left-back broke into tears of joy after scoring his first competitive goal for the club since recovering from a horrible injury he suffered last season.

Jets-who enjoyed a 2-0 win over Kotoko last season at the same venue-began the game on a brighter note and appeared comfortable handling the Kotoko defenders.

Tamimu Montari and Sidi Abubakar who have both had fine season made Kotoko aware of the dangers they pose to them.

Coach Jonas Amissah urged his men to strike first blood but Kotoko's centre-back Awal Mohammed made things tougher for them.

But it was rather Kotoko who opened the scoring through Nii Adjei steered home a fine volley to score the opener on eight minutes before half time.

Kotoko had some nervy moments in the second half and goalkeeper Isaac Amoako had to be on his mettle to ensure Kotoko kept their lead intact.

The match appeared to be heading for a 1-0 win but Baah scored three minutes to full-time.

The left-back initiated a swift counter-attack from the left and finished off a neat through pass from Ivorian striker Ahmed Toure who had replaced Kofi Nti Boakye moments after the break.

Jets will remain in the drop zone at least for this weekend.
