Asante Kotoko are to refund $6,500 to Turkish club Gençlerbirligi S.K. over the transfer of defender Adamu Mohammed in 2008, Fifa has ordered.

The amount was originally supposed to have been paid to local club B.T International as a gesture of appreciation for nurturing the player in what is now popularly termed ‘Solidarity Mechanism’.

The amount which was included in the reported â‚¬4.5m transfer of the then 23-year-old however never reached Adamu’s feeder club (B.T International).

Fifa then ordered the benefitting Turkish side (Gençlerbirli?i S.K.) to assume the cost and later chase a refund from Kotoko which has finally been approved.

The Kumasi-based club also incurs an extra $1000 in legal charges.

“I can confirm we have received official notification to this effect,” Kotoko’s Public and Supporters Relations Manager Listowell Bukarson told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, you are hit with another judgment debt as it were.

“Management will sit down to look into the matter upon which our next line of action will be determined.”

The club was earlier hit with an ultimatum to pay â‚¬99,000 to former coach Hans Dieter Schmidt or risk relegation to Division Two if not honoured within 30-days.

Kotoko currently lead the Ghanaian topflight with a healthy ten-point lead with nine rounds of matches left to go.
