Bishkek: Alexsandr Krestinin has signed a new contract to continue as the head coach of Kyrgyz Republic until the AFC Asian Cup 2023.

The Football Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic (FFKR) officially announced the signing in the presence of newly elected FFKR President Kanatbek Mamatov.

Krestinin will oversee the team for the upcoming matches in the qualifying rounds of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar as well as the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

“We are pleased to announce the extension of the agreement with Alexander Krestinin, under whose leadership the Kyrgyz Republic national team made their way to the AFC Asian Cup for the first time and showed an excellent, bright game,” said Mamatov.

“The Football Federation trusts Alexander and his coaching staff. We hope that the national team of Kyrgyz Republic will have a lot of bright victories and significant achievements ahead!"

Kyrgyz Republic, who played in their first AFC Asian Cup, scored a historic 3-1 win over Philippines to seal a place in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 knockout stage.

The victory was the Central Asians’ first ever at the Continental Finals and despite falling 3-2 in extra time to eventual semi-finalists United Arab Emirates, the achievement of reaching the Round of 16 was Kyrgyz Republic’s finest moment under the 40-year-old Krestinin.

“I am glad to continue working with the national team of Kyrgyz Republic. The team worked well in preparation for the debut of the AFC Asian Cup, and the performance of the national team showed that we are on the right track," said Krestinin.

“I would like to continue in the same spirit. Particular attention will be paid to young players. This is the future of our team. We understand the full extent of our responsibility, we will do our work with dignity and will make every effort to achieve our goals."
