Ex-international defender Tony Baffoe, who has also been on the rise in world football circles, landed a place on Fifa’s influential Football Committee.
Adjoa Bayor, formerGhanawomen’s captain, startlingly earned a place on the Women’s U17 World Cup committee, Fifa insiders have told GHANAsoccernet.com.
Shockingly, Abedi Pele, a strong ally of Fifa president Sepp Blatter, who had served on the Football Committee for four years was dropped from his post and was not handed any position.
The latest list of Fifa appointees, which includes the three Ghanaians, is expected to be released by the world governing body in the coming hours.
This comes after a Fifa insider leaked the information toGhana’s authoritative football news website GHANAsoccernet.com.
Nyantakyi’s appointment is a huge boost for the young lawyer who has seen his stock rise in world football administration, months after securing a landslide victory last year to grab a seat on the Executive Committee of Caf.
His contributions on Caf various committees and the way he has steered Ghana football in a positive direction over the past seven years contributed in Fifa giving him the chance.
Baffoe, who has been a shinning star for Fifa in organising events and matches for both Fifa and Caf as well as taking care of players’ welfare in Africa, prompted the move to hand him the post.
The former Ghana defender has coordinated several matches for Fifa and Caf and his latest appointment was at the Club World Cup in Japan.
Bayor’s appointment comes as a shock but after helping Fifa during the U17 World Cup inGermanylast year, she impressed officials of the game.
She becomes the first Ghanaian woman to serve on a Fifa committee.
Abedi Pele’s exclusion comes as a shock even though the three-time African Footballer of the Year made decent contributions in his time on the Football Committee.
It is not known if the key African football figure opted out.
