LA LIGA / REAL MADRID: Raymond Verheijen: \"Bale is playing Russian roulette\"

Published on: 10 March 2016

Gareth Bale's ongoing injury woes are not only worrying Real Madrid. There are now also concerns for his well-being back home in Wales. At least, that is according to former Wales coach, Dutchman Raymond Verheijen, who was Gary Speed's number two before his untimely death in November 2011, aged just 42 years old.

"Gareth Bale is playing Russian roulette", Raymond Verheijen said of the Welsh striker, who has just returned from two months on the sidelines, regarding the number of injuries that he has suffered.

"Does he want to risk injuries every season or look for a club with a very professional approach and a very healthy injury record", said the former coach. "There are not many, but they are there", he added.

In an interview with the BBC, Raymond Verheijen hit out at Real Madrid and warned Gareth Bale of the danger he is in: "Staying at that club is basically playing Russian roulette with your career", he said bringing the Bernabéu club's medical staff's practices into question.
