LaLiga Promises through the eyes of LaLiga legends

Published on: 15 June 2019

LaLiga Promises is such a special tournament for everyone concerned but all the more so if a family member is involved or you're a coach of one of the participating teams. This is precisely the situation that the following trio of LaLiga greats find themselves in: Ismael Urzaiz, the former Athletic Club forward and current LaLiga Santander ambassador; Carlos Bacca, the ex-Sevilla FC frontman who currently plies his trade for Villarreal CF; and Sergio Pachon, who turned out for several top-flight clubs throughout his career, including Getafe CF.

Although everyone experiences the tournament in their own particular way, feelings of excitement, nerves and enthusiasm are shared by all. Urzaiz is rooting for the Bilbao-based outfit and has a vested interest in seeing the Basques succeed, given that the team's number 11 is none other than his son, Unax, who, just like his dad, operates as a striker. "We encourage him to just enjoy the experience and try to improve his game day by day," explained the proud father.

Meanwhile, Bacca descended on the PAMESA Ceramica Training Ground to cheer on the starlets representing Villarreal CF, Sevilla FC and, in particular, CD Leganes, whose squad features Jose Antonio Reyes Lopez. "I'm here to support the son of my friend Reyes, who was such a great help when I joined Sevilla."

Meanwhile, Pachon has a more hands-on role and can be found kicking every ball for the Getafe fledglings as he returns to the tournament for a second successive year as part of the team's coaching staff. "I end up having a worse time of things in the stands than I did as a player on the pitch, because all you want to do is help them but you can't," explained the former Geta hotshot.
