In an interview with Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has spoken on what it means to him to represent the Argentine national team.

“What I do at Inter is useful for the National team. I have to work every day to be able to wear the Argentina shirt. Lionel Scaloni has faith in me, he has called me up every time since he took charge and this is important for me,” he began.

“The national team is an important step for me, playing with Messi and Aguero is a great joy because they make Argentine football grow. What they are doing in their great careers is incredible. I hope I will be able to achieve what they have achieved.”

He then spoke on Inter's season so far.

“We failed to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, but we know we have other very important goals. In Serie A we are doing very well, there is the Europa League too and we have progressed in the Coppa Italia.”

Next he discussed working under Antonio Conte.

“Many things have changed since he came in. He has a special way of doing things and has taught us so much from his first day in charge. He has convinced us to all give our best and the results are there for all to see.”

The 22-year-old proceeded to discuss his arrival at Inter back in the Summer of 2018 and his developing partnership with Romelu Lukaku.

“I have had to adapt to a new culture in another country and learn another language. I played little under the previous manager but under Conte I have grown a lot and I am enjoying how things are going.

“My partnership with Lukaku? Lukaku helps me a lot, he is a player who – on and off the field – is very important to me. He is a very good person who helps me out. I am very happy to have met him.”

He was then asked about Juventus' recent domination of Italian football.

“Juventus is a team that plays football very well, they have many important players; we want to do our best and winning the title is one of the goals we have set ourselves.”

In conclusion he spoke on the reported interest from Barcelona.

“Today I wear the Inter shirt, I am very happy here, people love me. If there are these rumours, it means that I am doing things well and I must continue on this path. It is the mentality that I have when I go to sleep. I am very calm, very happy and comfortable at Inter.”
