Mancini: Lazio have the players to hurt Inter

Published on: 19 December 2015

Inter coach Roberto Mancini has emphasised how his team still require many improvements despite standing four points clear at the top of the Serie A table ahead of their match against Lazio in Serie A on Sunday evening.

Buoyed by two emphatic victories over Udinese and Cagliari this week, the 51-year-old played down the excitement surrounding the Nerazzurri’s recent results.

“The euphoria [around Inter] does not bother me,” he told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“It is normal for Christmas to bring this about but we are hoping to not lose our concentration.

“We know this will be a difficult match as Lazio have strong values.

“They have strong players and their current ranking does not reflect the strength of the team.

“[Lucas] Biglia is the key to Lazio’s midfield but the other two [Felipe Anderson and Antonio Candreva] are important too.”

After a year at the helm since his return to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Mancini likened his team to a Fiat 500 in midweek and was subsequently asked what that would make title rivals Juventus.

“A Mercedes station wagon,” he answered.

“[Juventus] have had a series of major victories which was the only way to rejoin the leading group.

“They lost three important players however those that have arrived are now in tune with the others.

“The second half of the season will be difficult as we have many big matches away from home.

“[The Scudetto] is not a problem we are focused on. We have another goal and will see how many points we have at the end of the season.”
