Marotta: Icardi will remain at Inter

Inter director Giuseppe Marotta is convinced Mauro Icardi will put pen to paper on a new contract in the near future.

The Argentine and the Nerazzurri have been engaged in contract talks for several months, with the two parties seemingly unable to reach an agreement thus far.

Marotta isn’t worried though, as he made it clear a new contract will be drawn up and ratified.

“It’s a contract renewal that is being discussed a lot by you [the media],” he told Dazn. “For us, this is part of football.

“There is no question that Icardi will remain here. We are happy with him and vice versa.

“The only remaining issue is when to put pen to paper on the contract.”

Marotta also confirmed Inter are keen to land Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid, though he didn’t confirm reports a deal has already been reached with the defender.

“Inter have a strong appeal,” he added. “Lots of players and lots of agents knock on our door.

“This makes us proud because it means we are a reference point in the world of football.

“There are stars that present themselves that we don’t want to let get away, and Godin is one of them.”
