Mathew Amoah confident Ghana will qualify for World Cup

Holland-based striker Mathew Amoah believes Ghana can qualify to the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals despite recording mixed results in the opening qualifiers.

The 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists thumped Lesotho 7-0 but suffered a 1-0 reverse against Zambia in Ndola this month.

The Black Stars are second in Group D with three points; one point behind leaders Sudan.

Amoah-who played at Ghana's two World Cup appearances in 2006 and 2010-is backing the team to rediscover their winning form.

"Even though we have played two matches and three points I don't think there is any cause for alarm," Amoah said.

"Playing away against any team is not easy let alone African champions Zambia.

"We are just at the start of qualifier and I am confident we will qualify.

"There is a big chance for Ghana to qualify for the World Cup so we should support the team."

Amoah signed for Dutch Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen this month after an ill-fated spell at Turkish side Mersin.
