Medeama regret attacks on journalists

Medeama Sporting Club has issued a grovelling apology to two journalists who were recently attacked by the club's fans insisting they to protect media and general public.

But the Tarkwa-based club rejected an accusation that  the  journalists were attacked in-front of the club president Moses Armah.

This follows an incident last Sunday when two journalists of Takoradi-based Melody FM were attacked by some irate club fans after their tie against Liberty.

The club have grovelled over the incident but insisted that that their laid down rules regarding home games are still intact.

"The club regrets the unfortunate incident that happened and we apologise unreservedly for any inconvenience caused," a statement signed by the club spokesman Ebenezer Aidoo read.

While insisting that they will protect the media during matches and events organised by the club, Medeama rejected an accusation that the two journalist were assaulted in front of the club owner.

" The said journalists made a spurious allegation on air that the incident happened in the presence of the club president," the statement read.

"Therefore the statement that the incident was orchestrated is utterly false."

The club pleaded with the media to respect the laid down regulation on post match interviews to avoid such incidents in future.

"The club at the beginning of the season organized a press conference to inform all the media in the Region that no one will be allowed in the dressing room and the inner perimeter of the stadium on our match days for interviews.

"But the said journalist flouted the agreed position and entered the inner perimeter when it was about 10 minutes to the end of the game.

"The journalist in question was also led by the PRO of the club to the assigned venue for the post match interviews despite the clash with the fans.

"We want to assure the media that they have our utmost support, respect and backing in the discharge of their duties but we plead with them to obey the rules so that we can all help to inject professionalism in the game in Ghana."
