Communications Director of Medeama SC Patrick Akoto has stated that his outfit could have clinched the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup trophy if government had supported them financially.

The Yellow and Mauves reached the group stage of the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup competition.

Despite lack of financial support from the then ruling NDC party, the Tarkwa-based side exhibited one of the best performances in the competition as they crashed out of the final hurdle.

Medeama SC's scribe Mr. Akoto heaped praises on the government for the desire to support Asante Kotoko and future participants of the CAF inter-club competition, and posited that his side could have finished the 2016 campaign with a flourish if they had financial backing from the previous government.

The eloquent spokesperson's claims comes after government pledge to support clubs financially to reduce the burden on Ghanaian clubs in CAF  inter clubs competition.

“Medeama would have won the CAf Confederations Cup if we had a sports minister like Hon Isaac Asiamah and the support of the government during that time," he claimed on Ashh FM.

“The government has really done well in supporting Kotoko. So, we’re all wishing Kotoko well ahead of their game against Al Hilal of Sudan coming Sunday and I know they will make Ghana proud."

Kotoko is the only Ghanaian club participating in this years CAF inter-club competition and has qualified to the group stage.
