Michael Essien takes up coaching and player role at Sabail FC

Ghana International and Ex-Chelsea star Michael Essien has taken up a coaching and player role after joining Azerbaijan club Sabail FC on a short deal.

The deal which will run till May 2020 will see Essien join the club’s U-19 coaching staff to acquire coaching experience as part of completing his UEFA B qualification, a continuation of the coaching work he has been doing with Chelsea U16.

The 36-year old is expected to be in action for the club after the international break.

Michael Essien had stints with top European clubs such as Real Madrid, Olympic Lyon, AC Milan and Panathianiakos.

He last played for  Indonesian side Persip Bandung in 2018.
