Mihajlovic: AC Milan must keep aiming for third place in Serie A

AC Milan coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has called on his players to maintain their charge up the Serie A table when they take on Torino this Saturday.

Having recently advanced to sixth place in the domestic league standings, the Serbian tactician has encouraged the improving Rossoneri to ultimately aim for a Champions League third spot and recognise that they are just as talented as those teams above them.

“We must keep edging closer to third place but we are taking it game by game,” said Mihajlovic to calciomercato.it. “Those teams in front of us are not necessarily better, as we have already demonstrated.

“We have improved from the first half of the season and we must not make the same mistakes that we have made previously.

“Starting from tomorrow we must start picking up points against the smaller teams.”

Furthermore, the 47-year-old has stressed the importance of their forthcoming fixture against Giampiero Ventura’s Granata side, insisting that any player who is not prepared should not bother leaving their Milanese training headquarters, as their next trio of matches are integral to their season overall.

“Tomorrow’s game will be fundamental,” he added. “Il Toro are a great squad and if one of the players think that tomorrow will be easy then they should remain at Milanello.

“It will be a difficult game that we must play with the right mentality. The next three fixtures will decide our season.”

Lastly, Mihajlovic also claimed that controversial striker, Mario Balotelli, must start to increase his workload upon the field, and that he should aim to imitiate the work of some of his fellow footballers.

“He played quite well against Napoli,” he added. “However, he must give everything when he goes on the field.

“It is fundamental that he has the right attitude during a game. He must take examples from other footballers, where they demonstrate their maturity every day.”
