Lucas Moura said he respected Mauricio Pochettino's decision to drop him for the Champions League final.

The 26-year-old was the hero for Tottenham in the semi-final of the competition, scoring a dramatic hat-trick as they beat Ajax.

I look forward now to next season to do a great season as well. Win a trophy, that is my objective.

However for the final against Liverpool Pochettino opted to give a start to the fit-again Harry Kane.

Moura came on as a second-half substitute in Madrid but was unable to prevent defeat, Liverpool winning the final 2-0.

Moura is now with the rest of the Spurs squad in Singapore, preparing for a pre-season game with Juventus on Sunday and said he understood and respected Pochettino's tough decision.

He said: "For sure he has a good reason for this and I am sure that it was difficult for him as well to choose a player. He needs to choose only 11.

"I look forward now to next season to do a great season as well. Win a trophy, that is my objective."

Moura, despite his Champions League disappointment, did play a full part in Tottenham's season, his first full campaign in the Premier League since his move from Paris St-Germain.

He made 49 appearances, scoring 15 goals for Pochettino's side who finished fourth in the Premier League table ensuring qualification for this season's Champions League.

"We got into the new stadium. People believe in us more now and it is time to confirm this, that we are a big team, a big club, with a great squad. We will see what will happen this season," he added.

The Juventus game is followed by a meeting with Manchester United in Shanghai before a return to Europe where they play Real Madrid in Munich and then back home at the new stadium to take on Inter Milan to end pre-season.

Spurs start the new Premier League season a week later on 10th August when they are at home to newly promoted Aston Villa.

Spurs are 1/4 to start with a win while Villa are 11/1 with the draw 9/2.

Tottenham are 1/2 to finish in the top four next season with Manchester United 11/10.
