Move talk flatters Longstaff

Published on: 19 July 2019

Sean Longstaff says it is flattering to be linked with a transfer to Manchester United but is focused on impressing Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce.

The 21-year-old central midfielder is reportedly wanted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but Newcastle value their player at £50million.

Longstaff has only featured in nine Premier League matches for Newcastle and has been sidelined since March due to a serious knee injury.

"I just keep my head down," Longstaff said. "I'm just trying to get fit - that's all I can focus on. I'm still a Newcastle United player.

"I want to get back on the pitch as soon as I can. That is what I'm looking forward to doing. I make more and more progress every day, that's all I look forward to. I can't wait to get on the pitch and impress the new boss.

"If somebody had said to be me a year ago I would be in this position, I would probably have laughed at them.

"When I was in the team for a short amount of time people took notice of me. It is flattering but my job is at Newcastle."

Joselu, Mo Diame and Ayoze Perez have all left Newcastle since the end of last season while loanee Salomon Rondon has agreed a permanent switch from West Brom to the Chinese side Dalian Yifang.

Newcastle are 9/4 to be relegated in 2019/20 and 29/10 to beat Arsenal in their first Premier League game of the campaign.
