Oh Se-hun determined to take Korea Republic further

Lublin: Having fired Korea Republic into the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup Poland quarter-finals, Oh Se-hun is now aiming higher.

Oh, at 1.93 metres, is the tallest player in the Korea Republic squad and he used his height to great effect in the last 16 tie against Japan on Tuesday, heading home the only goal of the game to set up a quarter-final with Senegal.

Korea Republic will be seeking a first appearance in the FIFA U-20 World Cup semi-finals since 1983 and Oh said he is determined to deliver against Senegal on Saturday to meet head coach Chung Jung-yong's pre-tournament target of a last four appearance.

"We can't be just talking about making the semi-finals or the final. We have to believe in ourselves," Oh said. "I think we can do it. Personally, I've developed confidence that I can play against anyone."

A Korea Republic win in the quarter-finals will take through to a last four clash against the USA or Ecuador.

Oh has scored in Korea Republic's last two matches - both with headers - as the East Asians overcame losing their first Group F match to Portugal to register three consecutive wins, including over six-time champions Argentina.

Oh's goal against Japan was set up by a cross from his high school teammate Choi Jun, and Oh said it must have been two years ago since the two last connected for a goal.

"When Jun sent the cross my way, I tried to do whatever I could to put my head on it," Oh said of his goal. "Fortunately, it went in. And I want to thank my teammates for not conceding a goal to that point and giving me that opportunity to score."

Korea Republic have scored four goals so far in the tournament with Oh accounting for half.

"I didn't expect myself to be leading the team in goals at this point," Oh said. "It still hasn't hit me yet. All I wanted to do was to help the team any way I can."
