Palermo president wants Serie A to be suspended

Maurizio Zamparini has vowed to campaign for the suspension of Serie A.

Italian football has been hit by another scandal with the authorities in Naples looking into allegations of tax evasion at AC Milan, Lazio and Napoli although the Palermo president believes the investigation is a joke.

“I think that this is not justice, but a work of fiction,” said Zamparini to the Giornale di Sicilia.

“It’s an investigation based on nothing. I challenge the magistrates to find something wrong in Palermo’s accounts.

“Me and my club have always done everything according to the rules.

“On Friday I will ask the league and the other 19 presidents in Serie A to suspend the season.”

The Rosanero president also explained how he first heard about the latest investigation into Italian football.

“You want to know how I learnt about this? [former Palermo sporting director] Rino Foschi rang me in tears because they suspended his bank account with €500,000 in it, that’s his money, that’s the state of Italy today,” Zamparini went on.

“What’s happening is a disgrace.”
