Ghana striker Richmond Boakye has been named Player of the Season by Serbian Superliga Red Star Belgrade.

The 24-year-old scooped the award at the club's gala night on Thursday.

Boakye has had a remarkable season at Red Star Belgrade banging in the goals for fun.

He managed 15 goals in 13 league appearances which helped the capital club to stay on top of the table before the winter break.

GHANASoccernet.com understands three European clubs Anderlecht, Rennes and Turkish side Besiktas submitted bids between €7-9m.

Boakye managed to scored 42 goals in 51 appearances in the calendar year.

His rich vein of scoring form has attracted interest from some stellar European sides including English Premier League side Newcastle United.
