Pulisic undaunted by pressure

Christian Pulisic may be Chelsea's only signing this summer but says he arrives at the club as his own man and not as a replacement for Eden Hazard.

Hazard could be on the move out of Stamford Bridge, possibly to Real Madrid, and with Chelsea subject to a transfer ban, Pulisic may be the only arrival this summer.

Obviously there's pressure from outside - that's to be expected. But I just try to focus on what I can do.

Christian Pulisic

The 20-year-old signed for Chelsea in January but was loaned back to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season.

Now however he is destined for the Premier League and, with other new faces unlikely, he could attract a great deal of attention, especially if Hazard does leave the club.

It puts pressure on Pulisic to start the new season well but he says he will not let outside factors affect him.

He said: "I put enough pressure on myself to be good, to be great. That's how I've always been. I'm very competitive. I want to be the best for myself.

"It's quite easy to avoid the outside pressure; you just zone it out. I'm not saying I kill myself with pressure. I expect a lot of myself. For me, that's enough. Obviously there's pressure from outside - that's to be expected. But I just try to focus on what I can do."

Pulisic will be with the USA squad for their Gold Cup campaign this summer, which will mean missing the start of Chelsea's pre-season preparations.

The Gold Cup begins on 15th June, ending on 7th July with the new Premier League season starting a month later.

Chelsea meanwhile finish this season off with the Europa League final next week and are 11/8 for the win with Arsenal 19/10.

Chelsea are 20/1 to win next season's Premier League with Manchester City 8/11 and Liverpool 11/4.
