Re-elected Kwesi Nyantakyi rues lack of competition

Re-elected Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi says he would have loved to test his popularity after standing unopposed in Friday's presidential vote.

Nyantakyi was elected by popular acclamation at the GFA Extraordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Two aspirants Vincent Sowah Odotei and Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe were disqualified for reports of anomalies on their nomination forms.

Also, Golightly McKenzie and Forsythe Alhassan withdrew at the initial stages.

Nyantakyi said: "Competition usually brings out the best in you. This (unopposed) does not give you a correct gauge of your popularity."

"No bridges were broken. We just applied the laws. The law states that when you want to contest, you need to be proposed and seconded by 10 other clubs.

"If you do this, this does not amount to breaching bridges," he added.

"We are not a political party and it is not a 'winner takes all' affair. For me, everyone must come out to support the GFA into a brand that we all want."

Nyantakyi has been Ghana FA president since December 2005.
