Roma target disgruntled Liverpool defender

Roma are looking to strengthen their side during the January transfer window by acquiring Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.

Despite only joining the Premier League side from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, the Frenchman would reportedly consider leaving England and a move to the Eternal City could potentially interest him.

As confirmed by Corriere dello Sport, Roma director Walter Sabatini has been in contact with the Merseyside based club amidst reports Sakho is still contemplating where his future career lies.

The 25-year-old has found himself lacking game time due to a recent niggling knee injury and his luck has failed to improve since the arrival of new coach Jurgen Klopp, who replaced the departing boss Brendan Rogers in October.

That aforementioned change in coaching staff has meant the centre-half has yet to be seen as a regular by the German tactician, increasing the likelihood of a January exit to Italy.

Interest from the Giallorossi should come as no surprise, considering they also launched an attempt to land the Frenchman in the summer prior to the 2015-16 season.

Sakho has made 40 appearances for Liverpool in the past two seasons, scoring just once in a 4-1 win over West Ham United during his debut campaign.
