Sousa: Fiorentina must play with patience against Chievo

Published on: 19 December 2015

Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa is after just one Christmas present this year in the form of a victory against Chievo on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Following a week which saw the Gigliati lose 3-1 to Juventus in Serie A before being knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Carpi, the Portuguese coach was confident his team could put the week’s results behind them.

“I am honest and direct with everyone,” he told reporters at the pre-match press conference.

“The team has already gotten the message.

“I am aware of the challenge after a negative result but I am also aware of the strength of the group, who will respond well on the field.

“[Chievo] defends well with their whole team, thus patience will serve us well tomorrow.

“We have to create space for ourselves and control the speed of the game to get the shots on goal.”

The 45-year-old would not speculate on any rumoured gifts that club-owner Andrea Della Valle might be delivering over the coming month, instead focusing on earning results on the pitch.

“The first gift will arrive tomorrow, we want the three points,” he stated.
