Sousa: Fiorentina won thanks to the passion of the fans

Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa hailed the love and passion of the fans as crucial factors in the win over Carpi.

A 2-1 win in Tuscany keeps the Gigliati third in Serie A, having spent much of the game level with the  newly-promoted side before Mauro Zarate sealed the points in injury time.

“The passion and love of our team and of our supporters enabled us to win this game,” he told Sky Sport.

“Some players were missing today, but it will be better next week.

“Mauro Zarate is a player who can do anything, and he has the will to help us now.

“Cristian Tello enabled us to pass the ball nicely, and when his team mates served him he showed what he can do in the one-on-one.

“After Carpi’s draw we stopped playing and had less chances, and we suffered in some parts of the game.”

Sousa added he is curious to know why he was sent off by the referee having been sent off on 62 minutes for a reason that is unknown to him.

“I didn’t understand the reason why I was sent off, and tried to speak to him to find out. I am curious to know why, but it is all good,” he added.

“It is not a matter of respect: I simply could tell the inferiority compared to the referee.”
