Special Competition: Kotoko coach C.K Akonnor eyes champions League football ahead of Hearts clash

Asante Kotoko coach C.K Akonnor has set sights on qualifying for the CAF Champions League ahead of the semifinal clash of the Tier I special competition against Hearts of Oak.

The Porcupine Warriors will play the Phobians at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday with a place in the final at stake.

The winner of the Tier I tournament will represent Ghana in the Champions League, and coach Akonnor says that is the club's main objective.

“For us, our target is to go back to Africa in the coming season,' the former Ghana captain said. " Thankfully, we still have a chance with both tiers.

"However, the Champions League is what we have not done well in when we participated, so we will want to return to that competition and prove our worth. We will fight to claim that slot,” Akonnor added.

Kotoko will be boosted by the return of Abdul Fatawu Safiu, after he was dropped from coach Kwesi Appiah's final 23-man squad for AFCON 2019.

But the Reds will be first choice goalkeeper Felix Annan, who is with the Black Stars team in the United Arab Emirates.

Asante Kotoko finished second in Zone A of Special Competition behind regional rivals Ashantigold.
