Sudan brands Zambia desperate over protest for World Cup points

Sudan’s Football Association president Mutasim Gaafar has lashed out at Zambia saying their protest at FIFA against the Nile Crocodiles in an act of desperation.

The Chipolopolo, who are in the same group with Ghana, lodged a protest with FIFA late last week claiming Sudan used an ineligible when the two sides clashed last month in the 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Sudan won the game 2-0 but Zambia are seeking the points with the utterly late protest so that they can move above Ghana and go top of the group.

Gaafar says the complaint from Zambia over the use of an ineligible was ineffective, improper and an act of desperation.

The leader of the embattled body, said their counterparts complained about suspended defender Saif El Din Ali days after the game which was against the FIFA rules.

"If Zambia wanted to complain properly they must do that before or after the game within 48 hours and not almost a week later." Gaafar said angrily.

According to SuperSport, the Sudanese FA expects only a financial punishment from Fifa, but not the docking of points.

Meanwhile, the vice president of the Sudan FA Ahmed Tarifi has announced that he will bear the responsibility of the problem caused when a suspended player dressed and played against Zambia in their recent World Cup qualifier on June 2.

Zambia has since protested to FIFA about the player featuring in the Omdurman game where the African champion lost 0 – 2.

Tarifi told SuperSport that he will bear the responsibility and he will resign from SFA if FIFA punishes them.

The Sudanese board had a long meeting at their headquarters about the problem and Tarifi told them that he will sack himself and they accepted that for now.

Elsewhere the Zambia FA is expecting a tongue lashing from the Chipolopolo fans if they fail with their protest as they slapped their complaint to FIFA many days after the deadline had elapsed.

Some are already branding the Zambian FA as incompetent.
