Sunderland boss Bruce to pass on Muntari signing

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is expected to pass on signing permanently on-loan Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari.

The Daily Mail says Muntari's winner against Bolton Wanderers will not be enough to persuade Bruce to go on paying £70,000 a week to keep him. Muntari arrived in January and Sunderland had not won on their travels since then.

In fact, his expensive presence was not enough to prevent the team from slumping to nine defeats in the 11 matches prior to this rare success.

Bruce, relieved with a win that finally kills relegation fears, said: "The problem with Sulley was that he came to us having not played for six months. He won the Champions League with Inter, then couldn't get into their team this season.

"I would say he is only now getting to the level of fitness required to play in the Premier League."
