Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has played down his chances of replacing Asamoah Gyan as Ghana captain.
The 25-year--old has been handed the leadership role in the absence of the iconic Gyan in recent times.
Partey has matured greatly and consolidated his position since breaking into the Black Stars.
The former Mallorca and AlmerÃa intelligent enforcer has emerged as the country's brightest export in the past two years.
And he is now mentioned as a candidate for the captaincy after Asamoah Gyan.
But he has responded modestly to the suggestions.
“This is just the beginning, I cannot say am the captain of the Black Stars because I have important players in front of me so I just work harder as I said earlier and anything that comes is a bonus,” Partey told the Press.
“As a player, I just play to achieve more for my club and country, being a captain doesn’t make me achieve anything, I just have to do my work and it will be the coach decision to choose a captain.”
The enforcer was crowned the Best Player at the first edition of the Ghana Football Awards held in Accra over the weekend.
