Torino v Atalanta – Preview: Mid-table clash for improving Granata

Published on: 09 April 2016

Torino and Atalanta clash at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon as both sides hope to climb into the top half of the table.

In a week that saw several upsets, Torinio dramatically overcame Inter in a 2-1 comeback thanks to a late penalty by Andrea Belotti. Prior to their win in Milan, however, Il Toro have struggled, registering just one victory in 11 matches.

The visitors enter into their clash with the Granata coming off a two-game winning streak, their longest of the season, and the Orobici will hope to build on their current momentum to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Both sides are currently level with 36 points and sit in 11th and 12th place respectively.

In their previous encounter, Torino overcame the Orobici 1-0 thanks to a 52nd minute goal by defender Cesare Bovo. However historically Edoardo Reja’s side enjoy a slight advantage over their hosts: winning 11, drawing eight, and losing 10 matches to Il Toro.

Italian striker Ciro Immobile will be unable to feature for Torino as he sustained a musce injury to his right leg, whilst Giampiero Ventura will also be without defender Danilo Avelar who is recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture and is not expected to return before the start of next season.

Attacking midfielder Alejandro Gomez will be hoping to continue his goal streak, having netted in both of Atalanta’s recent wins while the Orobici will continue to be without Carlos Carmona who hasn’t featured since the reverse fixture in Torino, as he recovers from a hip operation.
