Published on: 15 July 2018

In the newly released video, the latest in a campaign which shines the spotlight on inspiring women working in Asian football, Taheri reveals the sacrifices she made in order to reach the top of her field.

The former international midfielder said: "When I was a player, I was struggling, because I wanted to have a national team and I wanted to play games. I couldn't have that opportunity when I was playing. That was only a dream. To achieve my dream, I had to move."

Since its launch on March 8, the AFC's “It's My Game series” has been viewed over a quarter of a million times, and featured women trendsetters ranging from world class international players to technical staff and administrators, all of whom have overcome obstacles to pursue careers in football.

As a former player and now coach, Technical Director and Executive Member of the United Arab Emirates Football Association's (UAEFA) Women's Football Committee, Taheri perfectly embodies the key contributions made by women throughout Asia.

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said: “We celebrate the women who work for the betterment of Asian football in our Member Associations, driven by their passion for the game. As the AFC strives to fulfil its vision of excellence, we cannot afford to ignore the vital contribution women make, on and off the pitch.

“Asia is the world’s biggest football stadium and women and girls are an important part of the future success of the game in the Continent. Fulfilling Asia’s football potential is possible only if it includes everyone: women, men, boys and girls.

“I trust that the It’s My Game campaign will encourage girls across Asia to see football as a viable future career option.”

This September the United Arab Emirates U-16 women's national team will attempt to qualify for the AFC U-16 Women's Championship for the first time by participating in the official qualifying tournament held in Bangladesh.
